mineral. It is often mistaken for ruby because of its fine resemblance with
the red gemstone. The origin of the word comes from the Latin word "spina"
which signifies "thorn". Expensive rubies are still substituted
for by spinel. If compared, then both spinel & ruby consist of almost
the same chemicals. Magnesium aluminum oxide is the main chemical in Spinel.
Whereas, chromium is responsible for such a close resemblance with ruby.
